Microstructure and Texture Evolution During Cold Rolling of 316L Stainless Steel

The evolution of the deformation microstructure and local crystallographic orientations are investigated for 10, 30, 50, 80 pct cold rolled 316L austenitic stainless steel strips results related to overall macro-texture evolution. microstructures characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), including backscatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission (TEM). macro-textures X-ray (XRD) measurements. It is found that leads both slip twinning followed martensite transformation shear banding. occurs on planes with highest Schmid factors shows a strong orientation dependence, in sense preferentially grains near Copper rather than Brass orientation. furthermore formation twins bands have significant effect texture correlations between microstructure, discussed.
